SonoMaxx Has You Covered: Applications of Handheld Ultrasound in Nursing
With the continuous improvement of ultrasound technology, it has been applied in various aspects of the nursing field. The interdisciplinary integration of ultrasound medicine and nursing specialty enables qualitative or quantitative assessment of indicators invisible to the naked eye through a unique visual perspective, solving the difficulties in clinical nursing work. Bedside ultrasound-led nursing assessments such as lung assessment and gastric residual volume assessment can help nurses quickly, qualitatively and quantitatively evaluate critically ill patients, so as to implement goal-directed nursing. Bedside ultrasound-guided feeding tube placement and arteriovenous catheterization can improve the success rate of nursing operations and reduce patients’ pain.

Nursing Procedure – Vascular Puncture
Ultrasound-guided visualization enables nurses to perform arteriovenous puncture, reducing the number of attempts and time required for difficult vascular access. This in turn decreases nurses’ workload, alleviates patient suffering, and lowers patient costs.
Puncture techniques include the in-plane technique and the out-of-plane technique.
The in-plane technique, also known as long-axis guidance, involves aligning the long axis of the puncture needle parallel to the long axis of the probe. It features a small needle insertion angle and a long puncture path, allowing the entire needle body and insertion path to be clearly displayed on the screen during puncture.
The out-of-plane technique, or short-axis guidance, requires the long axis of the puncture needle to be perpendicular to the long axis of the probe. It has a large needle insertion angle and a short puncture path, with only the cross-section of the needle body visible on the screen during puncture.
